Fourteen Months

Wednesday, March 19, 2014
As of Monday our Little Man is fourteen months old. Where did that last month go? Before you scroll any farther,  I would like to apologize for the ridiculous number of photos in this post.  It is completely unnecessary, but I could not help myself.  He is just so cute!

Cullen's favorite thing to do right now is read. He brings me books constantly and shoves them in my face or pushes them to my chest until I agree to read. Then he sits in my lap and soaks up every word and picture. Immediately after the last page, he asks to read it again. And again. And again. We started reading this book about a week ago, and I have already memorized it.  It has been stuck in my for the past two days. I guess that is a small price to pay for his love of books. I thought we had a built up a pretty good library of board books, but we may have to find a few more. Just for my sanity.

He has also gotten into the habit of pulling out DVDs for me to read. I have tried explaining that I can't read a movie, but he doesn't care. So in addition to books, we read a lot of movie covers.

I really do love that Cullen loves reading so much. It provides an opportunity for him to learn and a chance for me to sneak in some snuggle time. I will continue to read the same books over and over as long as it makes him happy.

Cullen has picked up a lot of new words over the past few weeks. He now says cookie, shoes, thank you, and fish (goldfish). I think he has started calling Macey DeDe, which is pretty adorable!

Our picky little eater has not gotten much better. He refuses to eat any kind of meat or vegetable. He loves grapes, blueberries, yogurt, goldfish, bread, and cookies. Occasionally I can get him to eat a ham and cheese sandwich, but it's usually when the sandwich was intended for me. He is growing fine and a very happy little boy, so I'm not going to force the issue. Like I said last month, we will continue to offer him what we eat, and I'm sure he will eventually eat better.  I hope so anyway.

As you can clearly see here, Cullen is loving outside. And he is non-stop. If you remember, last month, he was perfectly content to sit in the grass and let me snap a few pictures. Not this time; Corey and I chased him around the yard the entire time trying to get a few good shots. Cullen spent most of our photo session pulling weeds (which our yard definitely needs right now.) Maybe we can put him to work this summer?

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Our St. Patrick's Day festivities consist of wearing green and enjoying our traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage.  (Which I hear is not actually that Irish...but it's super yummy, so I think we will stick with it.)  But, with a redhead with an Irish name, we may have to step up our game next year!

How are you celebrating today?

Dance Parties

Wednesday, March 12, 2014
I don't dance.  Corey doesn't really dance.  Cullen dances all the time.  I don't know where he gets it from, but this kid loves to dance.  At the first note of any song, he starts moving.  He dances when we sing The Wheels on the Bus, when a song is on the radio, to music in commercials, sometimes even when there is no music at all. He will dance in the middle of dinner, when we are trying to snuggle, and he will drop his toys in an instant to get his groove on. His little moves are the cutest ever!

Corey and I can't help but stop what we are doing and grin ear to ear when Cullen starts dancing.  We rewind and play the same commercial over and over to extend his mini dance parties.  Like Cullen's first ice cream last week, this is one of those little things I want to remember forever.  I'm sure this dance party phase won't last long, so I don't feel bad at all about the amount of time we spend enjoying Cullen's moves.

Watch out ladies; he is pretty adorable, and has some pretty sweet moves!

Ice Cream

Wednesday, March 5, 2014
This past Sunday, the three of us took a trip to Ikea.  I say trip, because it is a two hour drive to the closest Ikea.  We usually go once or twice a year, so I always have a pretty long list of things to look at when we get the chance to go.  We spent over two hours eating lunch and shopping on Sunday, which is pretty good considering it takes about that long just to walk through the store.  To reward Cullen (and Corey) for being so good, we got some ice cream before we got back in the car for the two hour drive home.

This was Cullen's first time having ice cream, and HE LOVES IT!!!  He ate about half of mine and some of Corey's and was super excited when he found out you could eat the cone too.  He would eat a few bites of mine and then point to Corey's to get a bite of his.  I kept trying to cut him off (in hopes of getting some ice cream myself), but he was having none of that.  He ate until all of the ice cream was gone.  I think it's safe to say that Cullen loves soft serve almost as much as I do.  Almost.

Watching his little face light up when he discovered this new treat was priceless!  It's these little moments that I want to remember the most.  It is so easy to focus on the big milestones we pass as he is growing up, but seemingly insignificant things like his first ice cream make the best memories, for me and for him.
